LA Jargon: Petty Cash and Button Mash (Video)
It was a Cinemuse-reunion, as Christine and I traveled to the West Coast campus of JMU’s premier film club. It had been a few years since visiting Los Angeles. A lot is the same. The sky has no clouds. The streets feel like strip malls without parking lots. And the Pokemon are just as rocky as the people (Geodudes, dude!).
But this time around, hanging out with friends who are now locals, we picked up on some new “jargon.” Highways are “freeways.” Jobs are “gigs.” And geniuses are “MacArthurs.”
A terrible fire in Santa Clarita made for a terrific Instagram filter over the sun. Unfortunately, in-between taking photos for Shawn and Ben’s dating profiles, I dropped my a7S. The less-than-glamorous parking lot fumble was long overdue. The camera was helivaced to the Washington, DC, where it’s now in better hands.
