Discovering the Strawberry People (Video)
This three-day weekend, we continued our Memorial-Day-sisters-and-husbands camping tradition. But this time, we were roughing it! No car camping. No "glamping." We lived off the land for two nights using only what we could carry: our sharp knives, our sharp wit and our sharp sense of hiking fashion. We were prepared for a total social-disconnection, but little did we know that the Delaplane Strawberry Festival was in full swing next door.
Whole hours into our camping adventure, we stumbled out of the wilderness into the family-friendly affair. Our beards were as long as our walking sticks, but it didn't matter. We had once again found civilization. From crafts and bubbles to square dancing and hayrides, the organizers of the 2015 festival had created a type of utopia. Us weary campers loaded up on rations like BBQ, funnel cake and weird styrofoam candies before losing ourselves back into the woods.
In keeping with our minimal approach to camping, I've cut together a bare documentation of our discovery of the strawberry people and subsequent fall from society.
