The Second Annual Derby de Mayo
Last Saturday, May 2, Christine and I hosted our second annual Derby de Mayo. Fusing together the always misunderstood Cinco de Mayo with the largely large-hatted Kentucky Derby, we continued our tradition of combining two pastimes we know nothing about. This year, the cookout party placed greater emphasis on the costumes, encouraging guests to wear their best mash-up of borderline offensive Mexican garb with fashionable derby what-nots.
We also upped our Derby-half of the fictitious holiday by inviting an amateur bookkeeper, Casino Ronnie Dar, to bankroll our party’s gamblers.
Following classic sequel conventions, this outing doubled what worked from the original — the cookout included not one but TWO piñatas.
